Der Mann, der Yngve liebte | Mannen som elsket Yngve

Summary
A difficult coming-out in Stavanger in the year 1989 – and a beautiful coming-ofage
film with an electrifying coeval soundtrack. They call themselves “Matthias Rust Band”. The band‘s singer and guitarist Jarle has only ever listened to punk music, gone ice-skating and hung around with the pretty Cathrine. When he starts listening to synth-pop by “Japan”, playing tennis and watching “Derrick” with his mother, it means he must be in love! The object behind Jarle‘s change in habits is not a girl, however, but his new classmate Yngve, with the looks of a young Greek god. Set in
Stavanger in the year 1989, Stian Kristiansen‘s film tells the tale of a difficult comingout with near-tragic consequences.

North | Nord

Summary
Following a nervous breakdown, former skiing ace Jomar Henriksen finds a job as a
piste patroller. But he spends most of his time smoking, drinking and lazing around.
Then one day an old friend turns up and tells Jomar that he is the father of a child
living in the north of the country. After inadvertently setting fire to his dwelling, Jomar decides to set off alone on his snowmobile with nothing but five litres of alcohol to keep him going. Blinded by the snow, he has to seek help from a young woman who lives with her grandmother in a remote hut. Obliged to spend time with her in a darkened room, Jomar discovers in her a lonely soul who, like himself, longs to be
with other people. This is not to be his only strange encounter. On his long journey
north Jomar comes across tanks, dangerous tunnels, a mysteriously tethered Sami, full fridges in empty houses and unusual ways of getting drunk …and, in the end, maybe even his own child.

Espion(s)

Summary
Vincent works with his friend Gerard in the baggage service of a major French airport. Both of them occasionally improve their income by breaking into luggage. But one day, when they open the case of a Syrian diplomat, it explodes and Gerard is killed. Following his arrest, Vincent, who caught sight of the Syrian, is offered a deal: in exchange for release from prison he is to work with the French and British secret services who suspect the Syrian of planning a terrorist attack. Nicolas Saada’s exciting
espionage story about a reluctant spy is more of a realistic study of everyday life as an agent than a thriller in James Bond style. French shooting star Guillaume Canet plays the anti-hero who just can’t cope with the job he is expected to do.

Horn Of Plenty | El cuerno de la Abundancia

Summary
According to a newspaper article, more than 25.000 Cubans maintain that they are the heirs to an unclaimed multi-million dollar fortune held in the coffers of a British bank. In a small town in Cuba, the news explodes like a firecracker: all those with the family name of Castiñeiras will receive a juicy inheritance which some nuns deposited
in a bank in England in the 18th century. All the people with that family name begin
proceedings to get their part, but as one can imagine, many obstacles arise along
the way. Bernardito (Jorge Perugorría) is the leader of this crazy treasure hunt... Following „Guantanamera“ and „Lista de Espera“, Juan Carlos Tabío returns to comedy, looking at Cuban society with his corrosive wit.

friends and in a new environment, she struggles with her insecurity, her step-dad, and
her alter-ego Rooz. Whatever she tries, her problems seem to get bigger. How will
she survive? (Sensitivity notice: Rosa acts out her rebellion by shoplifting, dyeing her
hair, getting a piercing and painting graffiti).

Loft

Summary
Whilst at a wedding, respected architect Vincent gives his four best friends a very
special present. Each one of them receives a key for the penthouse on the top floor
of a new high-rise block that Vincent has just finished building. The penthouse is a
place where the five married businessmen can pursue their secret relationships – a
kind of love nest that no-one else knows about. That is why the only people who have
a key are Filip the playboy, Marnix, Chris the psychoanalyst and the taciturn Luc, and
all have sworn never to give the key to anyone else. Which is precisely the problem,
when one day Marnix finds an unknown dead woman chained to the bed. One of
the group is the murderer, but who is it? They clearly do not know each other as well
as they thought….. This year “Loft” by Erik Van Looy and Bart De Pauw became one
of the most successful Belgian cinema films of all time.

Summary
Asante loves his job, but he also has a problem. What woman wants to go out with
the driver of a hearse? Director King Ampaw succeeds in showing Africa from a completely new perspective in both a humorous and well-founded way. “The European image of Africa consists almost exclusively of poverty, corruption, Aids and war. That is what people see on TV. But normal life also exists, and we also have culture, traditions and entertainment. African film-makers can also make people laugh. That is what I try to do in my comedies.” (King Ampaw)

Pour Elle | Anything For Her

Summary
Julien and Lisa are just a normal married couple. Then, one day, police storm into
their apartment, and take Lisa, who is completely stunned by the whole thing, into
custody. Her boss had been murdered in basement-level car park, and all the evidence points towards Lisa, who is found guilty of murder and sentenced to 20 years
in prison. Julien remains convinced of Lisa’s innocence. With this, his first film, director
Fred Cavayé has made an impressive display of his considerable talent. In spite
of all the elements of a thriller, he has succeeded in primarily making a film about a great love that is strong enough even to challenge prison walls.

Summary
Aurora is serving a prison sentence for a raid that went pear-shaped. Her accomplices
– Ana, Gloria and Paloma – were not caught. Life is certainly no picnic for
these for women. Aurora’s sister Ana works as a prostitute and longs to have more
money. This is why she accepts an offer of marriage from Félix, a filthy rich but brutal
Mexican drug dealer who adores her. Ana goes to live in Mexico with her husband.
Shortly afterwards, Gloria receives a phone call from Ana in Mexico asking Gloria
to visit her there. Aurora is released from prison and is met by Paloma. At the other
end, Ana and Gloria are already waiting for them. Ana is unhappy with her new life.
Her husband’s alcoholic binges and violent outbursts have made her realise that the
drug lord has trapped her in a golden cage.

Summary
Paris at the end of the 70s. Stella lives in a chaotic working-class universe consisting
of the bar that her parents run, where the regular customers are almost part of the
family - a chaotic society full of loosers, drunks and night owls. Stella likes dancing
to disco music, she also serves in the bar and stays up till the early hours of the morning. Then she starts going to a grammar school in a „better“ part of town, where everything is different from home. Not only is she an outsider from day one, but she can‘t really follow the lessons. It‘s only when she gets to know Gladys, a good pupil from an intellectual Jewish family, that Stella‘s path takes a new, unexpected direction..... Director Sylvie Verheyde has included a number of humourously sketched
figures in this partly autobiographical film.
